At UNL, Evangeline is also pursuing a degree in French. It was an obvious decision from the start. Since she was little, Evangeline had an overwhelming curiosity surrounding different languages and cultures. She has studied French since the age of 14, diving deep into subjects such as French folktales, film, and Francophone cuisine. Her focus on the French language has allowed for a deeper understanding and knowledge of French culture, poetry, and pronunciation necessary for French opera and Chanson (French Art song).

Evangeline has twelve years of dance experience, including Classical Ballet, Modern, and Contemporary Dance. For two years, she participated in the Omaha Dance Project, a collaborative performance with different studios and diverse styles. In 2023, she danced in the multi-medium show “If Eyes Could See the Soul” with the Curious Music Collective (based in Sioux Falls) that included chamber music, spoken word, and dance. Her background in this art form has allowed her to develop her stage presence, bodily awareness, and expression from an early age.

Evangeline hopes to help her community with music. In December, she sang “Hold On” by Gilda Lyons at UNL’s World AIDS Day Concert, aiming to educate people on current research and to destigmatize people living with the HIV virus. This was an impactful event that continues to inspire Evangeline.

In 2024, Evangeline performed a scene from Der Rosenkavalier as Sophie for UNL’s Opera Scenes class. This summer, she will perform as Servilia in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito as part of the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria.

Who I am

Evangeline has interest in theater and musical theater as well. In the spring of 2021, she played Sister Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls. Through this show, she found her community at Augustana University. Later, she played Mrs. Alma MacNeil and the Sob Sister in the Augustana Collaborative Theatrical

Evangeline Mason is a lyric soprano who strives to capture the soul of every role she sings. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Evangeline started singing in her church’s children’s choir and her grade school’s annual talent show. Later, she studied voice and piano at the Omaha Conservatory of Music. Through her adolescence, she sang in different choirs, including the Omaha Symphony’s 2019 performance of Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. For three years, Evangeline studied with Dr. Russell Svenningsen at Augustana University, before transferring to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to pursue a deeper study of Opera.

Her first steps in the world of opera began as a freshman in high school. She sang in the Children’s chorus in Opera Omaha’s 2016 production of “Opera Outdoors” showcasing “Opera’s greatest hits.” Years later, she traveled to Italy for her first summer program Opera Seme, singing in Umberto Giordano’s Mese Mariano. In the summer of 2023, she received her first role, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, at the Miami Music Festival. She has also performed in several opera scenes including Die Zauberflöte, The Yeoman of the Guard, Hansel and Gretel, and Cosi fan Tutte.
